President Trump surprised a crowd of Republicans Friday night at his Florida resort, but didn’t say a word to them about the news of the day — that Special Counsel Robert Mueller had completed his report into Russian meddling in the US election without making any new indictments.

The annual fundraiser for the Palm Beach County GOP, which featured a speech by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), was initially being held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home without him.

But he and First Lady Melania Trump couldn’t resist taking what relieved supporters treated as a victory lap, Politico reported.

“If Lindsey’s speaking, I want to come down here, for two reasons,” Trump said. “No. 1: He’s a great speaker. And No. 2: I know if I’m here, he’s not going to say anything bad about me.”

He also introduced his wife as “our First Lady, who is more popular than I am.”

Trump is on the golf course Saturday, and has yet to comment on the report that Mueller has submitted to Attorney General William Barr, which he is expected to summarize in a report to Congress sometime this weekend.
