BEIJING — President Trump arrived in China Wednesday for a summit with President Xi Jinping — promising to call on the Asian power to “open up” to American businesses after last year’s trade war.

Trump received a red-carpet tarmac welcome from Xi’s vice president, Han Zheng, before his high-power entourage clamored down the steps of Air Force One.

About 300 children sang a welcome message and waved US and Chinese flags as Trump greeted the crowd with his signature fist pumps.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, and CEO Jensen Huang of Nvidia, the world’s largest business by market capitalization, followed Trump down the stairs, as did first son Eric Trump, who has a leading role in the president’s own business empire.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth were among the top US officials in the delegation.

Trump listed many American CEOs making the trip in a social media post, underscoring his plan to focus on business relations.

“It is an Honor to have Jensen, Elon, [Apple CEO] Tim [Cook], [BlackRock CEO] Larry Fink, [Blackstone CEO] Stephen Schwarzmann, [Boeing CEO] Kelly Ortberg, [Cargill CEO] Brian Sikes, [Citigroup CEO] Jane Fraser, [General Electric CEO] Larry Culp, [Goldman Sachs CEO] David Solomon, [Micron CEO] Sanjay Mehrotra, [Qualcomm CEO] Cristiano Amon, and many others journeying to the Great Country of China,” Trump wrote.

“I will be asking President Xi, a Leader of extraordinary distinction, to ‘open up’ China so that these brilliant people can work their magic, and help bring the People’s Republic to an even higher level!”

Trump is scheduled to be in Beijing for just one full day and told reporters on Tuesday that “we’re going to be talking with President Xi about a lot of different things. I would say more than anything else will be trade.”

Trump and Xi swapped tit-for-tat tariff increases last year, with the US president attempting to strong-arm China into a major trade deal that would benefit American companies.

The trade fight at one point saw US tariffs on Chinese goods near 150% — before a cooling off following an October meeting between Trump and Xi in South Korea, where Xi agreed to do more to quash fentanyl exports that killed about 403,000 Americans over the past seven years.

Trump’s White House counter-terrorism director Sebastian Gorka told The Post on Monday that he considers Chinese exports of the synthetic opioid “war by other means” and “a targeted killing of Americans.”

Trump has downplayed his plans to discuss the Iran war with Xi — whose nation buys 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports, giving it significant potential leverage in peace talks.

The American delegation was welcomed by a military band and honor guard at Beijing’s airport before Trump’s motorcade made an evening arrival at his hotel.

The White House released a slick clip-reel of Trump’s ceremonial arrival showing Chinese troops marching on the runway.

Trump will visit Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on Thursday, followed by a bilateral meeting with Xi and a state dinner. He will meet with his Chinese counterpart again on Friday before flying back to Washington.

The trip is the first time a US president has set foot on Chinese soil in nearly a decade.

Trump claimed to reporters Tuesday that Xi is expected to make a reciprocal visit to the US “toward the end of the year.”

The visit comes as the two global superpowers have sought to iron out tensions. 

During last year’s trade war, China threatened to impose restrictions on rare earth materials and the US stopped advanced chip sales that Beijing could use to give it a key boost in the artificial intelligence race.

US investment in China also plunged dramatically. 

Trump has frequently highlighted his positive relationship with Xi, and the two countries have made progress on a trade framework aimed at cooling down tensions. 

Trump’s visit to China was postponed last month due to the Iran war. Both countries are observing a tenuous cease-fire, which has been in effect since April 8.

Lawmakers like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) have accused China of propping up Iran by providing critical intelligence, materiel, and funding through oil purchases.

However, Trump largely dismissed those concerns, telling reporters Tuesday of Xi: “I think he’s been relatively good [on Iran], to be honest with you.”

Also on the president’s agenda for this week’s visit are artificial intelligence, nuclear weapons and human rights — including the imprisonment of media tycoon Jimmy Lai, who founded a pro-democracy newspaper in Hong Kong, and Pastor Ezra Jin, a pastor with American family members who was also arrested. 

Meanwhile, Xi is expected to push Trump to tone down US support for Taiwan, a longstanding flashpoint in the US-China relationship.
