President Trump griped at 3:14 a.m. on Friday about his critics “blaming” him for the series of mail bombs sent this week.
“Funny how lowly rated CNN, and others, can criticize me at will, even blaming me for the current spate of Bombs and ridiculously comparing this to September 11th and the Oklahoma City bombing, yet when I criticize them they go wild and scream, ‘it’s just not Presidential!’” Trump tweeted.
The tweet was in direct response to former CIA Director John Brennan, who said Thursday that the president should “stop blaming others” and “look in the mirror” — a day after Trump blamed the media for the political climate.
“Clean up your act….try to act Presidential. The American people deserve much better. BTW, your critics will not be intimidated into silence,” Brennan tweeted.
CNN was one of the intended recipients of several suspicious packages containing what appeared to be pipe bombs earlier this week. Others were addressed to Democrats including the Clintons and the Obamas, and Trump critics like actor Robert De Niro and former Vice President Joe Biden.
In a subsequent tweet Friday, Trump complained how the “‘Bomb’ stuff” has impeded the GOP heading toward the midterms.
“Republicans are doing so well in early voting, and at the polls, and now this ‘Bomb’ stuff happens and the momentum greatly slows – news not talking politics,” he wrote. “Very unfortunate, what is going on. Republicans, go out and vote!”
