WASHINGTON — President Trump said Friday he hoped the sexual assault allegations against Joe Biden are false, and would reserve judgment about whether his presumptive Democratic opponent sexually assaulted his former Senate staffer Tara Reade in 1993.
“Look, he’s got to fight that battle. I’ve had battles too where I’ve had false accusations many times,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” when asked if he believed Biden should drop out of the 2020 presidential race.
“I don’t know if it’s false or not, I mean Joe’s gonna have to be able to prove whatever he has to prove, or she has to prove it, but that’s a battle he has to fight,” he continued.
“I’ve had many false accusations made, I can tell you that, many, and maybe it is a false accusation, frankly, I hope it is for his sake,” he said.
In her first televised interview on Thursday, Reade told Megyn Kelly that she believed the 77-year-old ex-veep and former Delaware senator should exit the race because he “should not be running on character.”
She also said she would take a lie detector test if Biden himself did so.
Reade has accused Biden of pinning her up against a wall before reaching under her skirt and sexually assaulting her when she worked as a staff assistant in his office in the early 1990s.
Biden has vehemently denied the charges, saying the incident never happened.
The scandal threatens to derail Biden’s campaign, with witnesses and evidence supporting Reade’s allegations continuing to mount.
