President Trump is hosting Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida this weekend.

Trump told reporters that he will have dinner Friday night with his populist counterpart, who was elected in 2018 vowing to “Make Brazil great again.”

“He wanted to have dinner in Florida if that was possible,” Trump said Friday morning at the White House. “The president of Brazil. So we’ll be doing that today.”

Trump’s packed schedule Friday includes a tour of tornado damage in Tennessee and a visit to the Atlanta headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC stop was added midday, after Trump said officials confirmed a staffer does not have the COVID-19 coronavirus.

On Friday night, Trump is scheduled to arrive at Mar-a-Lago after 7:30 p.m., then host a roundtable of supporters 45 minutes later before addressing a fundraising dinner at 8:45 p.m. It’s unclear if Bolsonaro will be attending that dinner.

When Bolsonaro and Trump meet, the leaders “will discuss opportunities to build a more prosperous, secure, and democratic world,” the White House press office said.

“As leaders of the Hemisphere’s two largest economies, they will also discuss opportunities for restoring democracy in Venezuela, bringing peace to the Middle East, implementing pro-growth trade policies, and investing in infrastructure,” the White House said. “The President will use this meeting as an opportunity to thank Brazil for its strong alliance with the United States.”

Trump hosted Bolsonaro, who does not speak English fluently, at the White House in March 2019. Trump floated the idea of Brazil becoming a member of NATO.

Trump also used his lush retreat to host the visiting leaders of China and Japan, as well as a group of five Caribbean countries.
