President Trump tweeted, deleted, then retweeted about there being “absolutely no need to rush” trade talks with China — sending the stock market on a roller coaster Friday morning.

The S&P 500 futures plummeted just before 7 a.m. when Trump posted, “Talks with China continue in a very congenial manner – there is absolutely no need to rush – as Tariffs are NOW being paid to the United States by China of 25% on 250 Billion Dollars worth of goods & products,” CNBC reported.

The futures were still slipping but stabilized after that tweet was deleted. It reappeared with minor edits about an hour later, along with a flurry of other posts about tariffs on Chinese goods.

Overnight Friday, amid increasing fears of a trade war, the US hiked tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese goods to 25 percent from 10 percent following a sit-down between both sides Thursday in Washington.

China has threatened to retaliate. But Trump has heralded the move as good for America.

“Tariffs will make our Country MUCH STRONGER, not weaker. Just sit back and watch!” Trump wrote. “In the meantime, China should not renegotiate deals with the U.S. at the last minute. This is not the Obama Administration, or the Administration of Sleepy Joe, who let China get away with ‘murder!’”
