White House press secretary Sean Spicer said on Tuesday he “doesn’t know” if President Trump has seen a draft of the health care bill making its way through the Senate.

“I don’t know that. I know the president has been on the phone extensively with the leader, and with key senators,” Spicer said during the White House briefing, referring to Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. “So I don’t know if he’s seen the legislation or not.”

Pressed on what Trump wants the final GOP-backed health care bill to contain, Spicer said, “he clearly wants a bill that has heart in it.”

Saying the president “believes passionately” about the bill, Spicer said top administration officials were working with McConnell’s office and with top Republican senators to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

“This is an ongoing discussion with Senate leaders,” Spicer said. “I’m not going to get into the private discussions that have occurred, but I will just say that the more that we can do to produce a bill, as it works its way through the process, that achieves the president’s goals, that’s something we can all agree on.”

McConnell has said he would like to have a vote on health care before the Fourth of July recess.
