President Trump faced protesters yelling “Putin’s puppet!” and “Traitor!” as he returned to the White House late Monday after a tumultuous trip abroad capped by a bruising press conference with Russia’s leader.
The downcast president and first lady Melania Trump strode hand in hand to the jeers of dozens of people at the impromptu protest — dubbed #OccupyLafayettePark, The Hill reported.
ReutersDuring the joint news conference in Helsinki, Trump refused to denounce Russia’s 2016 US election interference and said both countries were to blame for the dismal state of US-Russian relations.
Video and photos from the rally show protesters verbally attacking the president while carrying signs that read “LIAR.”
It was unclear how many people attended the protest, though some said “hundreds” came after a last-minute notice of the rally.
Another #OccupyLafayettePark protest is planned for Tuesday night — and some protesters said they plan to continue rallying outside the White House until Trump resigns.
