President Donald Trump on Thursday named former Fox News executive Bill Shine as deputy chief of staff for communications, the White House said.
”He brings over two decades of television programming, communications, and management experience to the role,” the White House said in a statement.
Speculation that Shine, a top lieutenant of former CEO Roger Ailes and an ally of Fox News host Sean Hannity, would be offered a White House post has been circulating for more than a week.
The communications post has been vacant since Hope Hicks left the White House in March.
Shine resigned from Fox News in May 2017 over his handling of the sexual scandals involving Ailes and former talk show host Bill O’Reilly.
Ailes died in May 2017, nearly a year after stepping down at Fox News.
