President Trump on Friday said he doesn’t view Joe Biden as a threat to his 2020 re-election bid — and that the former vice president will be his own worst enemy.
“I don’t see him as a threat. I think he’s only a threat to himself,” the president told reporters as he left the White House for a trip to visit a stretch of border wall.
Biden’s “record is not good. He’d have to run on the Obama failed record,” Trump said.
“You look at what happened with so many things, North Korea, the Middle East, the economy never got going. No, I don’t think Joe’s a threat. I’d love him to be. Look, I’d be happy with any of them, to be honest,” he added.
Biden, who is expected to soon announce a presidential run, has been dogged by controversy in recent days after several women said he touched them inappropriately.
On Thursday, Trump shared a doctored video that mocked the former veep over the complaints.
Biden, who posted a video in which he vowed to respect people’s personal space, later hit back at Trump with his own tweet.
“I see that you are on the job and presidential, as always,” Biden wrote.
On Friday, reporters asked Trump whether he thought he was the “right messenger” to mock Biden’s behavior with women — a not-so-veiled reference to sexual assault accusations against the president — with the video.
“I’m a very good messenger, and people got a kick out of it,” said Trump, who was heard uttering crude comments about women in a now-infamous “Access Hollywood” tape from 2005.
“He is going through a situation — let’s see what happens, but people got a kick out of it. We have to sort of smile a little bit, right?”
