President Trump and Vietnamese leaders presided over a number of trade deals Wednesday morning — a show of unity between the two nations ahead of Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Under the trade deals, Vietnamese airline VietJet will buy 100 Boeing jets and 215 GE/CFM joint venture engines; Bamboo Airways will buy 10 Boeing jets; and Vietnam Airlines will buy $100 million in services and technology from Sabre Corporation, a senior administration official said.

Trump and Vietnamese President Nguyen Phu Trong joined executives from the companies at the presidential palace in Hanoi for the signing.

Trump arrived at the palace at about 11 a.m. local time and posed for photos with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Trong prior to the signing.

Trump praised Vietnam as a “thriving” nation and said the country is an example of what could happen if the US is able to work with North Korea.

“We [Trump and Kim] both felt very good about having this very important summit in Vietnam because you really are a good example of what can happen,” Trump said.

Prior to the meeting, Trump made similar statements in a tweet.

“Vietnam is thriving like few places on earth. North Korea would be the same, and very quickly, if it would denuclearize,” Trump wrote.

“The potential is AWESOME, a great opportunity, like almost none other in history, for my friend Kim Jong Un. We will know fairly soon – Very Interesting!” he added.
