President Trump wants no federal funding for a long-delayed new rail tunnel joining New Jersey and Manhattan — and is urging congressional Republicans to snub the project in the upcoming omnibus spending bill, according to a report.
Trump was so intent on excluding the project that he broached the topic with House Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday at a Capitol Rotunda ceremony for the late Rev. Billy Graham, The Washington Post reported.
Ryan seemed surprised that Trump was bringing up the $30 billion Gateway project at the time, a person familiar with the conversation told the paper.
Late last year, Trump cast aside an Obama administration agreement that the feds would pay for half the project’s cost — effectively shelving the plan.
