President Trump linked his rollicking, freewheeling political style with how he used to ride between subway cars when he was a teenager.
The president said he was well acquainted with the subway system from his days growing up in Queens, he told the New York Times in an interview published on Wednesday.
“I’d take it from Jamaica, 179th Street. Jamaica, right? To Forest Hills. I understand the subway very well. I used to ride between the cars,” he said.
Asked if “you’re kind of doing that politically now,” Trump responded, “That could be the best statement.”
“I used to love to do that,” the president said. “Those were the old days.”
