Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings says he drove away a criminal who burglarized his Baltimore home last weekend by “yelling” at the man.

The 68-year-old Democratic pol said in a statement Friday that he went into action after the intruder tried to gain entry into his home at about 3:40 a.m. Saturday.

“I was notified of the intrusion by my security system, and I scared the intruder away by yelling before the person gained entry into the residential portion of the house,” Cummings said. “I thank the Baltimore Police Department for their response and ask that all further inquiries be directed to them.”

According to a police report obtained by The Post, the 40-something-year-old intruder wore a black fitted hat with a red upside-down “U” shape on the front, along with a dark short-sleeve shirt and khaki shorts.

A security system motion alert went off as he entered the Madison Avenue building, notifying residents through a phone app that something was wrong, the report states.

Cummings told police that the intruder opened a second door that leads into a hallway. A moment later, the congressman “confronted the suspect and yelled,” according to the report, which has the names of the victims redacted.

The suspect was then seen with a dark bicycle in the foyer as he began to leave.

A woman inside the building managed to snap photos of the suspect as he closed the foyer’s front door.

The burglar, described as about 5 feet 8 and 170 pounds, fled southbound on Madison Avenue on his bicycle, the report said. No property was taken.

President Trump tweeted about the break-in Friday morning: “Really bad news! The Baltimore house of Elijah Cummings was robbed. Too bad!”

Trump was later asked about the tweet by a reporter.

“The tweet itself was just really a repeat of what I heard over the news,” Trump said on the South Lawn of the White House before boarding Marine One on Friday. “I know his house was robbed and I thought that was too bad.”

“That was really not meant as a wise guy tweet,” the commander-in-chief said. “I mean his house was robbed and it came over the news at a certain moment last night and I had just mentioned it.”

The burglary of the home of Cummings and his wife, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, the chair of the Maryland Democratic Party, occurred several hours before Trump accused the congressman of being a “brutal bully” and called his district a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” and a “very dangerous place.”
