An American citizen abducted in Yemen 18 months ago has been reunited with his family, President Trump tweeted on Monday.

“It is my honor today to announce that Danny Burch, a United States citizen who has been held hostage in Yemen for 18 months, has been recovered and reunited with his wife and children,” Trump tweeted.

Burch, an engineer for the Yemeni Safer oil company and husband of a Yemeni citizen, was kidnapped by an armed gang in the war-torn Middle Eastern nation in September 2017.

Though he didn’t immediately release details of Burch’s long trip home, Trump credited America’s allies in the region with helping to secure his release.

“I appreciate the support of the United Arab Emirates in bringing Danny home,” he tweeted. “Danny’s recovery reflects the best of what the United States & its partners can accomplish.”

Trump also reaffirmed the rescue of American hostages held abroad as a chief goal of his White House.

“Recovering American hostages is a priority of my Admin, and with Danny’s release, we have now secured freedom for 20 American captives since my election victory,” Trump added. “We will not rest as we continue our work to bring the remaining American hostages home!”
