President Trump told reporters that his campaign slogan “MAGA” also stands for a quartet of major US tech companies worth over a trillion dollars each.
Trump brandished a printed-out acrostic with the vertical acronym MAGA and the company names Microsoft, Apple, Google, and Amazon.
Vice President Mike Pence, standing near Trump in the Oval Office, grinned as veterans arrayed behind Trump applauded his cleverness.
The association is likely to make many employees of the Democratic-leaning tech companies cringe.
Trump playfully reworked his “Make America Great Again” acronym under the heading “THE TRILLION $ CLUB.” while signing a bill to expand jobs for veterans in science, technology, engineering and math.
Trump has frosty relations with some of the companies, routinely attacking The Washington Post for its ownership by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and alleging that Google censors positive news stories about him.
Trump has praised Apple CEO Tim Cook, however. He said last year that Cook “calls me and others don’t.”
Trump suggested that Fox News air his commentary on the economy, CBS News reporter Mark Knoller tweeted. But Trump quickly overshadowed the event’s purpose by blasting Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg for his “pathetic” apology for enforcing stop-and-frisk policies.
