President Trump on Twitter Wednesday predicted the Republican Party will win the midterm elections in November because of the “sooo strong” economy and Nancy Pelosi confirming she supports a tax increase, asking, “why wouldn’t we win?”
“The Republican Party had a great night. Tremendous voter energy and excitement, and all candidates are those who have a great chance of winning in November. The Economy is sooo strong, and with Nancy Pelosi wanting to end the big Tax Cuts and Raise Taxes, why wouldn’t we win?,” the president wrote.
Pelosi, the House minority leader, was quoted criticizing Trump’s tax cut plan during a town hall meeting Tuesday, saying 83 percent of its benefits go to the 1 percent.
Her comments came when she was asked at the event about an opposition ad Republicans have rolled out of her blasting the Tax Cut and Jobs Act.
She was asked about claims in the ad that she would like to institute a single-payer health care program and raises taxes by rolling “back the tax cuts they passed this year.”
“Well, the second part is accurate,” she responded.
Pelosi put out a statement afterward clarifying that Democrats want to make the middle-class tax cuts permanent.
They expire in 2025.
In one of the most watched races on Tuesday night, coal baron and ex-convict Don Blankenship lost in his Senate primary bid in West Virginia.
Trump used Twitter on Monday to urge voters in West Virginia not to support Blankenship, who served a year in prison for his role in a mine explosion that killed 29 workers.
”Don Blankenship, currently running for Senate, can’t win the General Election in your State…No way! Remember Alabama. Vote Rep. Jenkins or A.G. Morrisey!,” he wrote.
Patrick Morrisey, the state’s attorney general, won the primary election and will face Joe Manchin, the incumbent Democrat, in November.
