President Trump signed legislation Wednesday to confront the opioid crisis.

“Together, we are going to end the scourge of drug addiction in America,” Trump said at the White House.

Nearly 48,000 people died last year from drug overdoses involving opioids. The legislation — passed by large margins in Congress — expands access for treatment for Medicaid recipients, cracks down on mailed shipments of illegal drugs, and adds funding so states can deal with the crisis.
