WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who just keeps racking up job titles, could have another one soon, President Trump hinted.
The commander-in-chief mused that Rubio, who once held four big administration jobs simultaneously and has been floated for more, could become president of Cuba, where his parents fled in the 1950s during the brutal Batista regime.
“Sounds good to me,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Sunday in response to a random user who joked that Rubio could be Cuba’s leader after the government there falls.

At the moment, Rubio is serving as secretary of state, acting national security adviser and acting national archivist. He also briefly served as administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) until last August.
Former National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan publicly said last year that it’s “ludicrous” to think Rubio could handle his duties as secretary of state and national security adviser at the same time.
Rubio’s expansive portfolio has spawned a thousand memes joking that any time a job opens up, Trump will give it to his overworked secretary of state.
This list includes everything from president of Venezuela to the governor of Minnesota, secretary-general of Greenland and even the general manger job for Rubio’s beloved Miami Dolphins .
Usually, the memers will use a photo of Rubio recoiling in his seat during the infamous Feb. 28, 2025, Oval Office clash between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Rubio had looked visibly uncomfortable over the shouting match that played out in front of the cameras.
Amid jokes of him landing another gig, the secretary of state, an avid sports fan, publicly ruled himself out last week as head coach and general manager of the Miami Dolphins.

“My focus must remain on global events and also the precious archives of the United States of America.”
Trump’s suggestion about Rubio taking the reins of Cuba comes as the administration is mulling over what to do with the Caribbean country.
“If I lived in Havana and I was in the government, I would be concerned. At least a little bit,” Rubio told reporters after the successful Operation Absolute Resolve saw the capture of Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro.

Marco Rubio has ruled out a 2028 presidential bid if Vice President JD Vance runs. APThe secretary of state has underscored Cuba’s influence within Venezuela and the fact that some of those guarding Maduro during the raid were Cubans.
On Sunday, Trump put Cuba on notice, declaring “THERE WILL BE NO MORE OIL OR MONEY GOING TO CUBA” from Venezuela and urging Havana to make a deal “BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”
“Cuba lived, for many years, on large amounts of OIL and MONEY from Venezuela. In return, Cuba provided ‘Security Services’ for the last two Venezuelan dictators, Trump posted on Truth Social.
“Venezuela doesn’t need protection anymore from the thugs and extortionists who held them hostage for so many years. Venezuela now has the United States of America, the most powerful military in the World (by far!), to protect them, and protect them we will.”
