Former President Donald Trump says he is thrilled that Vice President Kamala Harris announced her VP pick as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

“THANK YOU!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, apparently believing the choice would only improve the odds for his own ticket with Ohio Sen. JD Vance.

Trump campaign spokeswoman Danielle Alvarez confirmed to The Post that the comment was about Walz.

The Trump team immediately launched into attacking the Minnesota governor after the Harris team’s announcement, ripping him for his “far-left” record dealing with his home state’s stances on immigration, gender, COVID-19 and the riots after the death of George Floyd.

“Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are two open-borders, weak-on-crime, defund-the-police liberals who make up the most radical, far-left ticket in the history of our country,” Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley wrote in a statement.

“Walz supports illegal immigration, has called cops racist, put violent criminals back on the street, and in 2020, let rioters burn the Twin Cities while Kamala stepped in to fundraise for their bail.”

Trump adviser Brian Hughes said, “By picking Tim Walz as her running mate, Kamala Harris not only bent the knee to the radical left, she doubled down on her dangerously liberal, weak, and failed agenda.

“Walz would be a rubberstamp for Kamala to wage war on American energy, continue aiding and abetting an invasion on our border, and embolden our adversaries as the world is brought to the brink of World War III,” Hughes said. “Americans will reject the Harris-Walz ticket and choose to make American Great Again by electing President Trump!”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) echoed the charge in a statement calling Walz “a progressive running mate who has voiced support for socialism, supports sanctuary cities, and wants to give driver’s licenses to millions of illegal aliens.”

“No amount of spin from the campaign or the media can distract from the objective facts and the disastrous records of Harris and Walz,” Johnson said.

Republicans especially leaned into Walz’s lack of forceful response to rioters looting and setting Minneapolis on fire in response to Floyd dying at the hands of police in 2020.

“Tim Walz is a perfect choice for Kamala Harris,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) wrote on X. “He let BLM rioters, arsonists, and looters rampage through his state and she encouraged donations to the bail fund for the few who were arrested.”

“A Harris-Walz Administration would be the end of America as we know it,” House Republican conference chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) also warned of the “radical” opponents.

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called Walz “an unbridled leftist” who is “an Ilhan Omar-style Democrat that puts ideology above all else.”

“In 2021, Minnesotans were roughly five times more likely to move to Florida than vice versa,” DeSantis posted on X.

“They were fleeing a state that, under Gov. Tim Walz, turned its back on law and order, increased taxes, and imposed unscientific coronavirus restrictions, harming children and destroying businesses.”
