President Trump is pointing out “there is nothing easy” about repairing the country’s infrastructure after agreeing to the outlines of a plan with congressional Democrats earlier this week.

“There is nothing easy about a USA Infrastructure Plan, especially when our great Country has spent an astounding 7 trillion dollars in the Middle East over the last 19 years,” the president tweeted Saturday. “But I am looking hard at a bipartisan plan of 1 to 2 trillion dollars. Badly needed!”

Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s acting chief of staff, floated a $1 trillion total for infrastructure spending Friday.

“Is it difficult to pass any infrastructure bill in this environment, let alone a $2 trillion one, in this environment? Absolutely,” Mulvaney told the Washington Post. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) and other Republicans in Congress also oppose a higher price tag.

Mulvaney was known as the GOP’s strictest budget hawk when he was a member of the House of Representatives.

His comments came after Democratic congressional leaders said Tuesday they had reached an agreement with Trump to spend $2 trillion on improving the nation’s infrastructure.

Following his infrastructure remarks, Trump posted a stream of retweets — several of them related to the controversy he touched off Friday with his criticism of Facebook and Twitter for what he called “the censorship of AMERICAN CITIZENS on social media platforms.”

Two of the retweets came from Paul Joseph Watson, one of the right-wing commentators that Facebook banned.
