President Trump broke 48 hours of Twitter silence Saturday with a series of tweets that included praise for US service members involved in Friday’s attack on a Syrian airbase.
“Congratulations to our great military men and women for representing the United States, and the world, so well in the Syria attack,” Trump tweeted at 10:54 a.m.
It was the president’s first social-media acknowledgement of the missile strike on Syria’s Shayrat airbase.
The shout-out to the military came after a pair of tweets about his summit with the president of China.
“It was a great honor to have President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan of China as our guests in the United States,” Trump posted at 10:50 a.m. “Tremendous goodwill and friendship was formed, but only time will tell on trade.”
Trump, who remained at his Mar-a-Lago resort for the weekend after Xi’s departure, was visiting his nearby Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. at the time of the tweets.
