Money is “pouring” into NATO, President Trump tweeted early Saturday ahead of his first G7 summit.

“Many NATO countries have agreed to step up payments considerably, as they should. Money is beginning to pour in- NATO will be much stronger,” Trump wrote.

It is unclear which countries Trump is referring to in the tweet, which comes after his Thursday rebuke of NATO allies who fail to “pay what they owe” in comments at the alliance’s Brussels headquarters.

Twenty-three of NATO’s 28 members have failed to meet an agreed upon 2006 benchmark of spending 2 percent of their gross domestic product on defense spending, Trump said.

It is not the first time Trump claimed money was “pouring in” for NATO, having made a similar remark in a January address to Congress.

The President, on the first overseas trip of his administration, is in Taormina, Italy for today’s gathering of world leaders.

“Big G7 meetings today. Lots of very important matters under discussion. First on the list, of course, is terrorism. #G7Taormina,” he wrote.
