President Trump tied the need for tax cuts to the two natural disasters that have ravaged large areas of the United States in the past weeks in a tweet spurring Congress to act “fast. ”

“With Irma and Harvey devastation, Tax Cuts and Tax Reform is needed more than ever before. Go Congress, go!,” he wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning.

That tweet came about an hour after he urged Congress to get to work on providing tax relief to Americans.

” The approval process for the biggest Tax Cut & Tax Reform package in the history of our country will soon begin. Move fast Congress! ,” he wrote.

The president has been pushing full bore on gathering support for a tax measure, even hosting a bipartisan dinner party at the White House on Tuesday evening with Republican and Democratic senators.

He also called for accelerating work on tax reform as he huddled over the weekend with Cabinet members and administration officials to monitor Hurricane Irma at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland.

“I wanted a speed-up anyway, but now we need it even more so. So we need to simplify the tax code, reduce taxes very substantially on the middle class, and make our business tax more globally competitive,” he said.
