President Trump weighed in on the attempted coup in Venezuela on Tuesday, reiterating US support for opposition leader Juan Guaidó.

“I am monitoring the situation in Venezuela very closely,” Trump tweeted. “The United States stands with the People of Venezuela and their Freedom!”

Guaidó announced Tuesday morning that he was launching a military-backed bid to oust President Nicolas Maduro, sparking widespread violent protests on both sides.
