President Trump continued to rail at special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, declaring “I DID NOTHING WRONG” and threatening to take the case to the Supreme Court if Democrats try to impeach him.
”The Mueller Report, despite being written by Angry Democrats and Trump Haters, and with unlimited money behind it ($35,000,000), didn’t lay a glove on me. I DID NOTHING WRONG,” he said in a pair of tweets on Wednesday.
“If the partisan Dems ever tried to Impeach, I would first head to the U.S. Supreme Court.”
”Not only are there no ’High Crimes and Misdemeanors,’ there are no Crimes by me at all,” he wrote in a second tweet. “All of the Crimes were committed by Crooked Hillary, the Dems, the DNC and Dirty Cops – and we caught them in the act! We waited for Mueller and WON, so now the Dems look to Congress as last hope!”
Some Democrats have called for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to begin impeachment proceedings against Trump, including presidential candidates Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris, and Julian Castro, who was President Barack Obama’s housing secretary.
But Pelosi has taken a cautious approach to the matter.
She said the House would continue to investigate the president, but “we’re not there yet” on impeachment.
“I do believe that impeachment is one of the most divisive forces, paths that we could go down to in our country, but if the facts, the path of fact-finding takes us there, we have no choice — but we’re not there yet,” said Pelosi, who’s in charge of the chamber where impeachment proceedings would have to begin.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said Democrats shouldn’t rush into holding impeachment hearings until Attorney General William Barr turns over an unredacted version of the report and the underlying information about how Mueller came to his findings.
Since Barr released a redacted version of the 448-page report last week, Trump has been declaring that it vindicates him and that there was no collusion or obstruction on his part.
While Mueller found that there was no evidence that Trump or his campaign associates conspired with the Russians during the election, he wasn’t as clear on obstruction of justice.
In the report, Mueller said that if his team had confidence after “a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state.”
And he included 10 instances in which Trump tried to interfere in the investigation, including by trying to pressure White House counsel Don McGahn to fire the special counsel.
