WASHINGTON — President Trump wished British Prime Minister Boris Johnson a speedy recovery during a phone call Friday after he was diagnosed with the coronavirus, the White House said.
“The President thanked the Prime Minister for his close friendship and wished him a speedy recovery,” the White House said in a statement.
“President Trump and Prime Minister Johnson agreed to collaborate closely, along with the G7, the G20, and other international partners, to defeat the coronavirus pandemic and boost the global economy.”
“The two leaders also expressed optimism that the United States and the United Kingdom would emerge stronger than ever.”
Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, just hours after participating in a G20 teleconference call with world leaders on how to confront the pandemic.
The British leader said he had developed mild symptoms and would continue working from home in self-isolation.
His infection means he will need to stay apart from new fiancee Carrie Symonds, who is pregnant and at a higher risk, according to The Sun.
