President Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees has grown a little longer. Five new names added to the list are well-known conservatives. One, Judge Kevin C. Newsom, is Alabama’s ex-solicitor general.

The others are DC Circuit Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, state Supreme Court justices Patrick Wyrick of Oklahoma and Britt C. Grant of Georgia and Seventh Circuit Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

Legal experts wondered if the additions announced Friday were meant to nudge Alabama Republicans into backing controversial US Senate nominee Roy Moore.

“The single most unifying thing about President Trump for conservatives is his judicial nominations,” said legal pundit John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog.

“If you want to rally conservatives, this is how you do it.”

The five judges are young — two are in their 30s. Whichever of them make it to the Supreme Court will be “with us for a very long time,” Hinderaker said.
