WASHINGTON — President Trump and first lady Melania Trump plan to skip this year’s Kennedy Center Honors awards ceremony for performing artists — who include Cher, an outspoken critic of the president.
“At this time there are no plans for them to attend Kennedy Center,” the first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said Tuesday.
This will mark the second year that the president and first lady have missed the star-studded D.C. affair.
Cher, 72, will be among the winners at this year’s event on Dec. 2.
She’s been a regular at anti-Trump rallies and marches and is a frequent critic of the president.
Cher previously expressed disappointment that she didn’t land the award during the Obama years and said she was “thrilled” at the prospect the Trumps might not attend.
Other awardees include Reba McEntire, Philip Glass, Wayne Shorter and the creators of “Hamilton.”
