President Trump’s tweet about a Belgian Malinois who took part in ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s demise has unleashed a torrent of pictures on Twitter of pooches whose heroics are less heralded.
“We have declassified a picture of the wonderful dog (name not declassified) that did such a great job in capturing and killing the leader of IS… Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,” Trump said in his tweet about the daring dog of war, who was injured in the operation but has quickly recovered.
And with more than 558,000 “likes” and about 129,000 retweets, that post has inspired dog lovers to “declassify” pictures of their own canine companions, according to a BBC report.
One of them, Keith Sonia, said that while his pup George may not be a “war hero” — he does a “good job sleeping like a human sleeps.”
Elizabeth McLaughlin released a photo of her dog — whose name she didn’t declassify — “who is busy practicing doga when not barking over the wall at the neighbor’s Frenchie to share neighborhood gossip about the crows, the wind, and that nasty Corgi around the corner.”
Meanwhile, Michael Tynan said he hoped that when the US Special Forces dog’s name is declassified, “it has an awesome name like the name our kids came up with for our dog: Greta von Waffles.”
Make no bones about it, Greta von Waffles is a fine name, but Conan — the reported name of the furry warrior — works wonders as a nom de guerre.
