Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni defended President Trump on Tuesday — the same day the US ambassador apologized for Trump calling African nations “shithole countries.”

“I love Trump because he tells Africans frankly. I don’t know whether he was misquoted or whatever. But he talks to Africans frankly,” Museveni told members of the regional East African Legislative Assembly.

“In the world, you cannot survive if you are weak,” added Museveni, who has led the country since 1985 and scrapped presidential term limits in 2005.

He also claimed Trump is an honest man during a Jan. 1 State of the Nation address.

Trump reportedly referred to African nations as “shithole countries” during a closed-door meeting with lawmakers about immigration.

The comments sparked furor in the US and abroad, and earlier Tuesday, US Ambassador Deborah Malac apologized to Uganda’s speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, calling Trump’s remarks “obviously quite disturbing and upsetting.”
