US forces “disabled” an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman on Monday after it tried to run the Navy blockade against Iranian ports, military officials said.

An F/A-18 Super Hornet jet fired at the Palau-flagged M/T Marivex oil tanker as it attempted to enter Iranian waters through the Gulf of Oman, US Central Command wrote on X.

“[The jet] from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) fired a precision munition into the ship’s engineering and steering spaces after the crew failed to comply with directions from U.S. forces,” CENTCOM said. “Marivex is no longer sailing to Iran.” 

The Marivex is the seventh ship to be disabled for non-compliance by the US military since the blockade went into effect on April 13. 

CENTCOM has so far intercepted 134 other ships, while allowing 42 vessels to pass through in support of humanitarian aid being transported to the region. 

The US military has repeatedly warned any and all ships from entering and exiting Iranian ports in retaliation to the Islamic republic’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz. 

Both the US and Iran’s actions have effectively sealed off the route that once oversaw 20% of the world’s oil transports, with only a handful of ships crossing the strait every day, according to maritime analysts. 

Monday’s interception comes as Iran’s ambassador to Moscow signaled that the Strait of Hormuz would be open under a toll system established by the Islamic republic and Oman. 

“We understand that Iran and Oman provide certain services related to this strait. And fees will be charged for those services,” Ambassador Kazem Jalali told the Russian newspaper Izvestia. 

President Trump has repeatedly stated that no tolls should be placed on the Strait of Hormuz, even going as far as warning Oman not to get involved.   

Oman, a US ally, has said there were no plans on its end to enforce such a toll system.
