White House counsel Don McGahn — who threatened to quit earlier this year if President Trump fired special counsel Robert Mueller — will exit the administration this autumn.

“White House Counsel Don McGahn will be leaving his position in the fall, shortly after the confirmation (hopefully) of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. I have worked with Don for a long time and truly appreciate his service!” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning.

Axios reported that McGahn told a pal he would like his successor to be Emmet Flood, a Clinton administration alum who joined the White House in May to defend Team Trump in the Russia probe.
