The White House press secretary on Monday swatted away questions about President Trump’s claim that he has the “absolute right” to pardon himself, saying the maneuver isn’t necessary because hasn’t done “anything wrong.”

“Thankfully, the president hasn’t done anything wrong, and wouldn’t have any need for a pardon,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders said at the White House briefing.

Reporters pressed on whether Trump believes he is above the law.

“Certainly no one is above the law,” she responded.

Earlier Monday, Trump tweeted that he can pardon himself in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, “as has been stated by numerous legal scholars.”

No courts have ruled on the matter of a president pardoning himself because no chief executive has ever attempted it.
