Strong winds and heavy rain rocked the Northeast early Friday, knocking out power to tens of thousands of customers from Ohio through Maine.
Gusts as high as 66 mph were recorded in Newark, New Jersey, while winds topped out at 64 mph in Baltimore, Maryland. In New York, it was slightly less breezy, but gusts were close to 50 mph, Fox Weather meteorologist Mike Rawlins told The Post.
The gusty conditions were mostly subsiding by 10 a.m. Friday, but temperatures throughout the Northeast will continue to fall as a cold front moves into the region.
“It’s still pretty windy out there now, and will stay chilly throughout this evening,” Rawlins said.
The storm system that rocked the Southeast Thursday moved into the Northeast overnight, putting Brooklyn and Queens in a severe thunderstorm warning that ended early Friday, Rawlins said.
Over 70,000 people are without power across New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania as of Friday morning. PowerOutage.USAnother warning was also in effect across New Jersey until 7 a.m. Friday.
“Most of the storm is done,” Rawlins said, adding that sunny conditions had returned to New York City and most of its surrounding suburbs. “But winds will stay brisk and eventually die down this evening.”
Still, some 55,000 customers in Pennsylvania remained without power early Friday, according to poweroutage.us. In New York, the figure stood at more than 30,000 as of 10 a.m. Friday, while another 13,000 were off the grid in New Jersey. Some 31,000 customers were also in the dark in West Virginia, data shows.

Heavy thunderstorms led to several tornado warnings in Alabama Thursday before the system moved to the Northeast. No injuries were immediately reported, according to Fox Weather. More than 10,000 customers in Alabama were without power at the height of the storm.
A tornado warning was also issued in Mississippi, where some 2,700 customers still didn’t have power early Friday, according to poweroutage.us.

Another storm system is expected to move into the Northeast Saturday. Fox Weather
No significant accumulation is expected from Saturday’s storm. Fox WeatherAnother storm system forming out of the Great Lakes region is expected to move into the Northeast Saturday, but no significant accumulation is expected, Rawlins said.
The system is expected to move out of the Northeast entirely by early Sunday, according to Fox Weather.
