Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was spotted for the first time after retiring yesterday taking a leisurely stroll around the luxurious papal summer residence.

Benedict was walking with family and friends around the grounds of Castel Gandolfo. He had not been seen since his retirement began Thursday.

The former pope wore a modest cap, and his usually ornate robes were reduced to plain white cloth.
