Antonio Williams, a 52-year-old letter carrier, was gunned down around 11:20 a.m. as he delivered mail to a residence in Shreveport, news station KSLA reported.

Williams was brought to a local hospital, but he died an hour later from his injuries, officials said.

That evening, police arrested 32-year-old Michael Jerred Gentry on suspicion of second-degree murder. He also faces charges of battery of a police officer, resisting an officer and theft.

Police said they don’t believe any dispute occurred between the two men before the fatal incident.

Williams’ family said he was a postal worker for 17 years and loved his job, according to news station KNOE. He is survived by his wife, seven children and 13 grandchildren.
