Prince William expects his “influence and control” over the British royal family to increase as his father, King Charles III, ages — which could lead to family drama, according to a report.
Friends of William, 41, told the Daily Beast of the heir’s expectations about his role. However, the sources added that it is likely to lead to clashes with the 75-year-old Charles, who is “allergic to anyone telling him what to do.”
The prince’s more informal court also differs drastically from Charles’ reserved operation, and the two have little day-to-day interaction aside from exchanging diary dates, a former palace employee who worked for both told the outlet.
“William and [his wife] Kate [Middleton] would do things like give you two weeks off if your father died, while Charles’ office has a more workaholic vibe,” the source said.
The internal power struggle isn’t expected to balloon into a public spectacle, though, with insiders telling the outlet William will ultimately “respect” his father’s wishes — unlike his estranged and rebellious younger brother, Harry, who “would not do as [he] was told.”
Despite the father and son’s differing professional styles, the pair have presented a united front since Charles was crowned in the spring, following the death of long-reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II last year.

“Rather than just being patron, I want to do more, I want to actually build the homes, I want to provide them with the mental support, all the employment and the education they might need,” he told a reporter of his efforts to fight homelessness.
The new Omid Scobie book “Endgame” also reported that William wants to “ensure his own image is no longer impacted by ‘poor decisions’ made by [his father]” in the wake of Harry’s rescindment of his royal duties and Prince Andrew’s shameful connection to prolific pedophile Jeffery Epstein.

Charles and Williams’ respective courts are now “hives of competing agendas and different ideas about how to modernize … behind closed doors, the King and the Prince of Wales are embracing very different approaches,” Scobie wrote.

“I think it is broadly seen as a productive rivalry, rather than a destructive one, because William respects his father’s ‘rank’ as head of The Firm,” the palace source reportedly said.
“Ultimately the monarchy is a hierarchical structure based on military principles, and when push comes to shove, you have to obey orders from your superiors. That’s what William and Kate understand, and Harry and Meghan could never accept. They would not do as they were told.”
A friend of William also shot down speculation that the prince wants his aging father to abdicate the throne and hand him the reins by the time he turns 80.
Polls also show Charles’ popularity rising. Sixty percent of his subjects now view the king favorably — a huge jump from his 35% approval rating before he ascended, a September YouGov poll found.
However, the Prince and Princess of Wales garner far more good will from the public, with their poll ratings in the mid-70s.
