Russian President Vladimir Putin now says he will receive his country’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, a month after saying he would not be injected with it.

A Kremlin spokesman told a Russian state TV channel of the reversal.

“He made this decision and was waiting until all formalities are completed,” Dmitry Peskov said.

The 68-year-old leader has worked remotely and largely avoided travel since the beginning of the pandemic. He said one of his daughters took part in the clinical trial for the Sputnik V vaccine, which the country claims is over 90 percent effective, and she felt well afterward.

Russians over the age of 60 can begin applying for shots on Monday, a day after health officials approved the vaccine for elderly people following a separate trial.

Russia has about 2.8 million coronavirus cases and about 49,000 deaths from the virus, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
