Russian President Vladimir Putin made a wisecrack about US belligerence on Tuesday during a sit-down with President Trump’s national security adviser, John Bolton.

“As far as I remember, the US coat of arms features a bald eagle that holds 13 arrows in one talon and an olive branch in another, which is a symbol of a peace-loving policy,” Putin said to Bolton during their meeting in Moscow, according to RT.

“I have a question,” he added. “Looks like your eagle has already eaten all the olives; are the arrows all that is left?”

Putin delivered the verbal jab while discussing the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and Trump’s recent decision to withdraw from it, under reported orders from Bolton.

The two also discussed the US plan to create a military space force.

Putin’s comment about the US seal, however, seemed to steal the show.

“Hopefully, I’ll have some answers for you. But I didn’t bring any more olives,” Bolton said in response.

“That’s what I thought,” Putin replied, sparking laughter from the national security adviser.

The Russian leader went on to propose further talks between Moscow and Washington, specifically a meeting between him and Trump at the Armistice Day celebration in France next month — “if the US side is interested in such contacts.”

“Despite our differences, which exist because of our different national interests, it’s still important to work in areas where there is a possibility of mutual cooperation,” Bolton said, adding that Trump was looking forward to speaking with Putin in Paris.
