Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest next to her late husband Prince Philip at the King George VI memorial chapel at Windsor Castle.

The Duke of Edinburgh died in April 2021 at the age of 99 and was buried at the Royal Vault in St George’s Chapel under the condition that his final resting place be at the side of his beloved wife of 73 years.

His remains are disinterred and moved following the queen’s death Thursday at the age of 96.

The chapel — named after her late father King George VI — was built in 1969 and is also where both of her parents and her sister Princess Margaret are buried.

After lying in the ballroom of her Scottish castle Balmoral, where she died, the queen’s coffin will reportedly be brought to Edinburgh sometime Saturday to rest in the throne room of her palace, Holyroodhouse.

From there, she will be taken to St. Giles’ Cathedral for a reception before being boarded on the Royal Train for a procession that will include King Charles, The Times of London said.

Her coffin will then be taken to Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, processed around London and brought to Westminster Hall on Wednesday, where she is slated to lie in state for three days ahead of a funeral.

Elizabeth — the longest-reining monarch in British history — will be taken to Windsor Castle for a committal service ahead of her burial in the castle’s King George VI Memorial Chapel, according to the outlet.

Her late husband’s remains will then be transferred to the chapel, under centuries worth of protocol that require him to be two paces behind the queen in public.
