She’s a monarch who does it all.
Queen Elizabeth II displayed a common touch, once offering — and then serving — tea to an oblivious workman who barked out demands of Her Royal Highness.
The sitcom-worthy tale comes from Kevin Andrews, a Royal upholsterer who worked for the late Queen Mother and shared the tea-tale in a documentary called “Secrets of the Royal Palaces,” The Sun reports.
“[A] builder was dismantling a desk … so he could not see who was making the offer when the lady’s voice asked him if he would like a cup of tea,” Andrews said.
The man replied gruffly:
“Yeah. In a mug. Two sugars. Builder’s tea. I don’t want any of that nonsense I had the last time I was here, all that fine china and all that saucer stuff.”
The Queen fulfilled his demands, returned with the tea, and told the workman that it was on the table.
Only then, Andrews said, the man “looked up [and] saw the Queen leaving the room.”
