Crazy video shows the moment a torrent of floodwater burst into a Massachusetts hospital, causing extensive damage and forcing the facility to shut down.

The footage from a security camera inside Norwood Hospital, which remained closed Friday, shows a large stream of murky water from nearly 6 inches of rain gush into the hospital’s basement on June 28, eventually forcing the emergency exit doors to give way.

The clip then shows the powerful surge completely flooding another section of the hospital, sending debris flying everywhere.

More than 4 feet of water was later measured in the facility’s basement, CBS Boston reports.

The “unprecedented” flooding took over the building from all six sides, a hospital spokesperson told the station, including via its roof and foundation.

“Based on the extent of the flooding, we need to check every piece of equipment, every outlet, every inch of drywall for damage in order to be 100% sure that there is no risk to our patients now or in the future,” the hospital spokesperson said in a statement to the station.

More than 100 patients had to be evacuated during the flooding. Two people were temporarily trapped at one point, but no injuries were reported, according to CBS Boston.

Hospital officials, meanwhile, announced in early July that reopening its emergency department would be its top priority.

Norwood Town Manager Tony Mazzucco said the emergency room is expected to be reopened sometime in the fall, the Transcript & Bulletin reports.

The rest of the facility, which sustained “massive” damage to its systems, may need a total reconstruction that could take years, Mazzucco said at a town meeting in late August.
