A family driving on a remote highway in the Canadian Rocky Mountains were shocked when they spotted a rare white grizzly bear near the side of the road.

Cara Clarkson managed to get a video of the bear and its darker colored sibling against the dark evergreen forest with her phone – which has since racked up hundreds of views on Facebook.

White grizzlies are extremely rare and a different species than the more well-known Kermode “spirit” bear who are related to the black bear and populate the Canadian rainforests.

“It’s definitely a pretty unique animal,” Seth Cherry, a wildlife ecologist with Parks Canada told The Guardian. “I’ve never seen a white bear personally.” Local officials said they were aware of the bear but this is the first time it has been captured on video.
