Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will lie in repose at the Supreme Court on Wednesday and Thursday after a private ceremony for family, friends and members of the court, according to a statement from the high court’s spokeswoman Monday.

Ginsburg, who died Friday, will lie in repose under the portico at the top of the stairs of the Supreme Court building so that mourners can pay their respects, said spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg.

On Friday, Ginsburg’s casket will lie in state in the National Statuary Hall of the Capitol, said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

A formal ceremony will be held on Friday morning but it will be restricted to invited guests because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, the speaker’s office said in a statement.

Ginsburg’s casket will arrive at the Supreme Court building at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday for the private ceremony.

The public will be able to pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday.

Former law clerks for Ginsburg will serve as honorary pallbearers and will line the steps as her casket arrives.

Supreme Court police officers will serve as pallbearers.

Her casket will be placed on the Lincoln Catafalque, which is on loan from Congress. It first supported President Abraham Lincoln’s casket across the street in the US Capitol after his assassination in 1865.

A 2016 portrait of the justice will be on display at the Great Hall.

A private interment will be held next week at Arlington National Cemetery.
