Rep. Liz Cheney, the No. 3 House Republican, skipped a retreat for House GOP leaders over the weekend due to fears over the rapidly spreading coronavirus.

Cheney was notably absent from the festivities, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) acknowledged that she had opted to not attend due to concerns over the virus in an announcement to attendees, Politico reported.

Jeremy Adler, a spokesman for the Wyoming congresswoman, confirmed to The Post that Cheney decided against attending the St. Michaels, Maryland, summit over those fears.

“Many of us have people in our families who are particularly vulnerable and, after consulting with physicians, Liz determined the best approach is to limit participation in non-essential gatherings,” he said in a statement.

Many Capitol Hill politicians have gone to great lengths to protect themselves from the virus, from wearing a gas mask to self-quarantining.

On Wednesday, fellow Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) began wearing a gas mask to protect himself from the virus.

“Look, members of Congress are human petri dishes,” he said Thursday after getting attention for voting with his gas mask on the previous day. “We fly through the dirtiest airports, we touch everyone we meet, so if anyone’s gonna get coronavirus, it’s totally gonna be Congress.”

And the White House has been taking precautions to try to keep the bug away from President Trump.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is also taking the threat from coronavirus seriously, formally announcing Sunday that he would be self-quarantining after coming into contact with an attendee at the Conservative Political Action Committee who was later diagnosed with the virus.

Cruz said in the statement that he feels “fine and healthy,” and that he was not experiencing any symptoms, but, “out of an abundance of caution,” was going to self-quarantine to “give everyone peace of mind.”

The senator said his contact with the CPAC attendee was limited to “brief conversation and a handshake” at the Maryland event last month.
