A 2-year-old boy in India has reportedly been trapped inside a narrow well since Friday, prompting a major rescue operation to save the tot.

Little Sujith Wilson fell inside the borewell in the state of Tamil Nadu on Friday while playing with friends, according to BBC.

At first, he was stuck about 30 feet below the surface, but has since slid deeper into the well, the report said.

Rescue efforts include pumping oxygen into the well and digging a second, adjacent, hole with a powerful rig to try to access Sujith.

At one point, the toddler was heard breathing when rescuers lowered a camera into the well, BBC said, citing local media.

His mother has been active in the operation, encouraging her son, from the surface, not to cry and sewing a bag she hopes can be used to lift him to safety.

An attempt to raise the boy with a rope was unsuccessful.
