Her name says it all.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have paid homage to both sides of the family, naming their bundle of joy Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
“The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge,” Kensington Palace tweeted Monday morning, two days after the beautiful baby girl was born.
The name isn’t just a hat tip to the princess’ regal roots, as royal sister-in-law Pippa Middleton’s middle name is Charlotte. But it’s also a nod to the newborn’s grandfather — Prince Charles.
King George III was the first British royal to use the name, dubbing his eldest daughter Charlotte back in 1775.
As the second child of Prince William, Charlotte is fourth in line to the throne, just behind her big brother, Prince George of Cambridge.
The royal couple chose two middle names that pack a lot of history.
Elizabeth is a tribute to the newborn’s paternal grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who currently wears the crown as England’s longest-ruling monarch.
And Diana is William’s way of remembering his late mother, who died in a Paris car accident in 1997.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
