Russia isn’t playing around with bars that flout COVID-19 rules.

A team of Russian police beat partiers at one St. Petersburg watering hole with clubs Wednesday for failing to close at 11 p.m. due to the pandemic.

Surveillance footage showed more than a dozen officers storming into The Commode bar and forcing patrons onto the floor, some of whom were pounded with truncheons.

“We didn’t expect them to break down the doors and kick and beat girls with batons,” Nikita Farbess, Commode’s co-owner, told Reuters.

The Investigative Committee law enforcement agency announced the series of raids against bars flouting the restrictions in a statement early Wednesday.

City lawmakers said any use of force was in response to violence against officers.

COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in the country’s second-largest city — with 3,761 new cases and 83 deaths recorded on Wednesday alone.

Though the Kremlin is against a national lockdown, it defended actions taken against the bars ignoring the restrictions.

“The resistance movement is not resistance against the regional authorities, but against people whose lives they are putting in danger,” a Kremlin spokesman said.
