Four people were reportedly killed, including a pilot, and 12 others injured when a small Russian plane crashed during an emergency landing in a Siberian forest Sunday.
The twin-engine Let L-410 Turbolet flying from the city of Irkutsk was about 2.5 miles from its destination, Kazachinkoye village, when it attempted to land, Reuters reported, citing the Investigative Committee law enforcement agency.
The Czech-made plane, operated jointly by the regional airlines SiLA and Aeroservis, was making its second landing attempt about midnight local time when it crashed, according to the Moscow Times.
“The plane crashed on an island in a river from a low altitude in conditions of thick fog,” according to the Kommersant daily, the report said.
Three passengers and a pilot were killed.

Russian police believe a mechanical error caused the plane to crash, though they have not ruled out pilot error. Russian Emergency Situations MinEleven of the dozen people injured remain hospitalized, including three in intensive care, the Moscow Times reported, citing the regional government.
“One woman was provided first aid and released home,” it said.
Officials believe equipment failure may have led to the crash, through pilot error has not been ruled out.
